Project Description
Telford Central Fire Station is the main response location for the communities of Telford and supports a network of partners that includes the police, ambulance, local authorities, NHS and Environment Agency.
A major investment programme in the region of £10m, overseen by civil engineering contractor McPhillips (Wellington), was planned to redevelop and modernise the fire station, which was originally built in the 1970s, ensuring a community facility built to the highest environmental standards that would be a flagship construction for green technology.
Zenith has an ongoing relationship with Mc Phillips, having worked together on many projects over the years, and was selected to apply a modified polymer screed within the fire station, helping to achieve the new, state-of-the-art finish required.
Our team applied a 6mm Altrocrete HF polyurethane screed, with a 60mm underlayment Altropol polymer modified screed to level, using over 70 tonnes of products for levelling and the topping finish. The Altrocrete HF system offers a hard wearing surface, with both colour and slip-resistance applied to meet the station’s requirements, and Altro prime and Altroexpand expansion joints were also used.
Based on performance, health & safety records, and overall finish, Zenith delivered the required results, completing the programme on time and to budget, enabling the station to remain operational throughout, with no issues occurring throughout the works.
