Project Description
A large oil recycling facility wished to plan for a worst-case scenario involving a potential oil spillage that would require containment at their West Midlands-based premises.
With the help of Dave Cope, manager of Zenith Contract Services resin floor division, a fixed bund wall was installed to the internal perimeter of the building to contain any such spillage.
To achieve this, the bund was installed using rustic engineering bricks embedded into an epoxy resin compound.
After allowing it to cure overnight, a solid, continual bund was formed, suitable for receiving Eposcreed High Density trowelled resin screed, which was used to form an ‘up and over’ coved skirt that totally encased the brickwork.
The floor within the containment area was prepared using totally enclosed shotblasting to provide a sound mechanical key, enabling the final coats of primer and resin to be applied. This included one coat of epoxy resin oil tolerant primer and two coats of Vebro High Chemical Resistance epoxy resin, mixed with a fine aggregate to provide a slip resistance surface, in a colour chosen by the client.
The result was very well received by the client, as meeting the requirements of the brief to safely facilitate any potential oil spill, while providing a solution that was aesthetically pleasing as well as being practical, long lasting and easy to clean.
Once again, Zenith’s team of flooring experts rose to the occasion, delivering a professional result quickly and efficiently, drawing on many years’ experiences to meet the client’s desired aesthetic while delivering the technical requirements of the job.
