Quartz aggregate creates a design feature at Leicester’s Curve Theatre
- Client: Curve Theatre, Leicester
- Project: Repairs to expansion joints
- Project Value: £11,500
- Products: KDR Polyaspartic Decorative quartz screed
- Commenced: May 2024
- Works Duration: 4 nightshifts
Project Description
The popular Curve Theatre in Leicester required extensive repairs to expansion joints that had failed, along with the surrounding screed, within the foyer and public areas. Zenith Contract Services were tasked with undertaking the works, suggesting that a feature could be made of the repairs, using a contrasting colour mix of the quartz aggregate.
The job required the failed joints to be broken out, after first saw-cutting the perimeters to form a rebate with defined edges, revealing the concrete substrate beneath. KDR Polyaspartic decorative quartz screed was then applied to the exposed rebates and trowelled in to match the existing profiles. KDR Polyaspartic Clear Seal was applied over the decorative screed and the joints were reintroduced using KDR Polyjoint flexible compound.
Work was carried out over four consecutive nights to ensure minimum disruption for the theatre, with the results providing a stunning finish that is both aesthetically pleasing and provides a highly durable finish, capable of withstanding significant footfall.
This is a high-profile job that aptly showcases Zenith’s attention to detail and creativity, delivering a solution that is not only eminently practical but also provides a design feature that enhances the theatre’s interior décor.
The client was delighted with the results, which demonstrate how a durable, hardwearing solution can be applied that complements the building’s aesthetic, without compromising on performance or longevity.
