25th Annual Zenith Golf Day

Event Overview

The 25th annual Zenith Golf Day was held on Friday, 23rd August, at Nuneaton Golf Club, marking a significant milestone in the event’s history. The day originally started as a memorial to Zenith’s M.D Martyn Hancox father who sadly passed away whilst out playing golf at Nuneaton Golf Club. Over the years, the competition has consistently garnered strong support from customers, suppliers, family, and friends, making it a highly anticipated event each year.

Charity Contributions

Beyond the competitive spirit, Zenith’s Golf Day remains committed using the event as a platform to raise funds for local charities. This year, the beneficiaries reflect those of Captains of Nuneaton Golf Club and are Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice and the Rainbow Trust. The event successfully raised over £2,500, pushing the total amount donated over the past 25 years to nearly £30,000 for various charities.

Weather and Playing Conditions

The weather on the day featured bright sunshine throughout the afternoon, but a strong wind added a layer of difficulty to the course conditions. The fairways were firm, and the greens were fast, making it challenging for the players. Out of a field of 64 participants, only six managed to score 36 points or better, reflecting the tough playing conditions.

Competition Results

Despite the challenging conditions, the ladies excelled on the course. The first prize in the team event was claimed by "NGC Lady Captains Choice," a team led by Irene Hancox and comprising Kath Kent, Jackie Brindley, and Maureen Hawkins, who scored an impressive 94 points.

Jackie Brindley had a particularly outstanding performance, winning the individual prize with a remarkable score of 43 points. In a close contest, she narrowly beat her husband, Colin, by a single point. Second place in the team event went to "SDI Albatross," who edged out "NGC Vice Captains Choice" on a countback.

Special Awards

The ladies’ dominance extended to the special awards as well. Irene Hancox was awarded the prestigious "Better than Brian Trophy," a trophy inaugurated in memory of Brian Hancox, the founder of Zenith. Additionally, Irene won the "Sun Hydraulics Trophy," further cementing her success on the day.

Conclusion

The 25th Zenith Golf Day was a resounding success, celebrating not only the spirit of competition but also the enduring commitment to supporting local charities. The event’s long-standing tradition of bringing together the community continues to be a highlight of the year, with this milestone anniversary marking another chapter in its storied history.
