The Importance of Hygienic Flooring in Food Production Environments

Hygiene is a critical priority within food production environments, and flooring plays a key role in maintaining standards. Surfaces must not only withstand heavy daily use but also support strict cleaning regimes and compliance with food safety regulations.

Traditional flooring materials can often fail in these environments, particularly where moisture, chemicals and temperature changes are present. Cracks, joints and porous surfaces can harbour bacteria, making it difficult to maintain a consistently hygienic space.

Resin and screed flooring systems are widely used within the food industry due to their seamless, non-porous finish. These systems are designed to resist moisture ingress, chemical exposure and thermal shock, ensuring long-term performance even in demanding conditions.

When combined with features such as coved skirting and falls to drainage, they provide a complete hygienic solution that supports effective cleaning. Selecting the correct flooring system is essential not only for compliance but also for operational efficiency. A well-installed hygienic floor reduces maintenance requirements, improves safety and helps maintain a clean and controlled environment for food production.
