New Resin Floor for Ward 10 at Birmingham Children’s Hospital

In September 2015, contractors William Gough appointed Zenith Pola Flooring Ltd to work on the refurbishment of the Ward 10 High Dependency Unit at Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

With children returning to the unit by the end of the month, Zenith had just three and a half weeks to install a new floor. The project was further complicated by the unit’s third floor location, requiring materials and waste products to be transported via the fire escape. The client selected ComfortFloor Pro resin flooring as an alternative to the existing vinyl floor, which required constant maintenance and was causing operational problems. In contrast, the seamless resin flooring is hardwearing, easily cleaned and comfortable underfoot, with excellent acoustic quality and covered by a ten-year guarantee.

Once the vinyl flooring had been removed, Zenith leveled the surface with a smoothing compound, which had to be pumped up from the ground floor and applied in one hit due to limited access and space constraints. The new floor was then ‘unbonded’, keeping noise and dust to a minimum. As a finishing touch, Zenith added fun circular shapes and a ‘Welcome to Ward 10’ logo at the entrance.

The client was delighted with the end result and Ward 10 Senior Sister, Alia Murtaza, commented: “I am overwhelmed by the service provided by Zenith. The project has now been entered into the ‘Small Commercial Project of the Year’ category at the forthcoming 2015 FeRFA Awards.
