Richard Chester Establishes Parkrun & Extends Running Club

Richard Chester, Director at Zenith, has recently established a Parkrun at Kingsbury Water Park that commenced on the 20th July 2013.

The Parkrun events are free to join where any age or ability are welcome to take part.

The Kingsbury run begins every Saturday morning at 09.00 where participants use a barcode to track their run times online or by text message. The events are held all throughout the UK, with around 200 runners attending each event.

As a member of the management committee, Richard has spent six months gaining the funding for and approval of local councilors and park managers to stage this event in North Warwickshire. The area is identified as having the shortest life expectancy and highest obesity levels of the borough.

As Run Director, Richard is hoping that this event will help to improve the health of local residents particularly the closest town, Tamworth.

Richard is also looking to extend the Badgers Running Club which he and his wife Nivette established in the last 18 months to include a cycling arm.

Richard believes that Badgers On Bikes can be the only natural progression to a club that now accommodates around 140 runners attending training sessions over three evenings each week.

The substantial growth of the running club has led to BADGERS becoming an affiliated club to UK Athletics with teams entering many running competitions throughout the Midlands.

“There will be no stopping us” said Richard who is enthusiastic over the clubs success.

“There are so many of our group who cycle too, we need to look to develop this area. Oh, and have I mentioned Tri-BADGERS?”

Richard took part in the Foremark Hall Triathlon and the 24 hour Thunderrun at Catton Park in July.
