Refurbishing a listed building to tight timescale
- Copsewood Educational Trust
- Project: Listed Building Refurbishment
- Contract Period: 3 Months
The Copsewood Trust Atherstone Campus formally the site of The Queen Elizabeth Secondary School in Warwickshire, required complete refurbishment of the three-storey Grade III listed building with bell tower.
One of the greatest challenges was to restore the original look of the school buildings, which included essential timber repairs and re-painting of the rooftop bell tower, which had to be accessed by a bespoke scaffolding system.
A full range of Zenith were contracted to include: minor works design and build for classrooms, washrooms and communal areas, general glazing repairs to the metal casement windows, new resin flooring for shower and change rooms, carpentry, rendering & plastering and finally complimented by internal and external painting and decorating.
The school’s gymnasium also required need a tough durable paint product, so Johnstone’s PPG Technical Services department recommended their anti-graffiti product which has very good mark - resistant and washable properties.
With completion required for the beginning of the next school year, the project had tight timescales with Zenith increasing their workforce in order to accommodate. The tight deadline has also entailed working on site alongside other contractors.
