  • Works Duration: 4 days

Project Description
Nearly 20 years after being involved in the construction of Coventry City FC’s arena, Zenith Contract Services were approached once again, this time to assist in refurbishing the home team’s changing room shower area floors. The existing tiled surface had begun to show wear and had lost some of its slip-resistant properties, prompting the need for an upgrade that would be both functional and aesthetically appealing.

Project Challenges
The key challenge was rejuvenating the existing tiles without having to remove them, while ensuring the new surface provided superior slip resistance and durability. The flooring also had to be easy to clean and maintain, while the surrounding perimeter walls required the addition of coved skirting for a seamless finish.

Solution
Zenith’s Resin Flooring Division proposed the installation of Altroscreed Quartz, a 6mm thick decorative epoxy resin screed known for its textured, slip-resistant qualities. This solution would effectively overlay the existing tiles without the need for removal, providing an efficient and cost-effective refurbishment.

• The first step involved diamond grinding the old tiles to prepare the surface for the new screed.

• An application of Altroproof Solo primer with a light scattering of quartz sand was then applied, creating the perfect base for the Altroscreed Quartz.

• After allowing the primer to cure overnight, the next day, the team applied the Altroscreed Quartz along with a radius coved skirting to the perimeter walls. Extra attention was given to ‘live’ access covers to ensure smooth transitions.

• The project was completed with the application of Altroseal and Altroseal UVR WB, providing a durable and UV-resistant topcoat.

Outcome
The refurbishment was completed over four days and has transformed the shower area, offering a visually appealing yet highly functional floor. The client was particularly impressed by the improved slip resistance, ease of maintenance, and the professional finish of the coved skirting.

This project reinforces Zenith Contract Services’ long-standing relationship with Coventry City FC and highlights their expertise in delivering high-quality, durable flooring solutions in demanding environments.
